Diaper Bag Essentials | Columbus Norfolk Moms

For many of us the diaper bag becomes our constant companion as soon as the baby does. Now that our daughter is three I feel that I have finally outgrown the diaper bag. However, those first two years it went everywhere we did! Now that she’s three we don’t really pack a diaper bag so much as we make sure there are certain things we may need in the car and on hand if need be.

Everything in your bag will change with the age of your child, from trip to trip, and even from person to person because all moms are different. What worked for me may not work for you and vice versa. In our case, our daughter was one who never spit up and very rarely had blow-outs so we never packed extra clothes. On the flip side of that, I’ve had friends who didn’t leave the house without 3-4 burp rags and just as many changes of clothes for their little one. Mainly, it’s all about knowing your child and knowing yourself. Trust your gut, mama!

From birth to age two you probably need the most on hand when you are out and about. Your list will also vary depending on whether you breastfeed or bottle feed.

  • Diaper wipes
  • Diapers
  • Diaper baggies for those dirty diapers
  • Diaper Cream
  • Change of clothes
  • Changing pad
  • Bibs
  • Pacifiers
  • Burp Rags
  • Cloth Paper towels
  • Stasher Bag
  • Snacks
  • Bottles
  • Sippy Cup
  • Small Blanket
  • Toys

The other thing I’d always do is make sure I put everything from my purse (keys, phone, wallet, etc.) into the diaper bag as well. The last thing I wanted was to keep track of two different bags and the kid.
