What do you do and where do you work?
I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
I own a private practice, lactation business in Norfolk, Nebraska- “Grow With The Flow Lactation Services.”
Tell us about your career. I serve Norfolk and the surrounding rural area. I offer in-home visits, video consults, phone consults, breastfeeding/prenatal classes, and a weekly breastfeeding/mother’s support group. My main goal has always been to provide support and knowledge to my moms- helping them achieve their feeding goals and make the decisions that best fits their family.
Why did you decide to become a lactation consultant?
After struggling with breastfeeding with my oldest daughter, I felt a passion and calling towards women health and advocacy. As a new mom in a new town, I searched high and low for advice, resources, guidance, recommendations, etc. Fast forward one year later and a successful, year-long breastfeeding journey, I decided to BE the resource for others. To provide lactation services to local moms and create a network to meet in these stages of life. To lift each other up and to celebrate each other’s victories.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Witnessing a happy and thriving mother + baby who feel supported and heard.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have two chicks that run our household. Sunny- 3 years, Scottie- 14 months.
What do you love about living in Norfolk?
We love the size of this community, in Norfolk. The feeling of a small town, yet an abundance of resources, downtown shops, restaurants, activities, parks, our thrift shops, and night life. What I truly love about this small city is the charm- specifically our 1930’s home and our amazing neighbors. Nebraska, specifically, allows up to spend majority of the year exploring outside with our kiddos, which is one of our main hobbies.
What’s your favorite restaurant and/or place to shop in Norfolk?
Black Cow Fat Pig- the best bartenders + local/organic food sourcing. 411- the best fresh pressed juice + breakfast. Aroma Circuit- authentic Indian food with relaxing, outdoor seating.
Hobbies- Spending our days in the sun, laughing with my babies, cooking, gardening, scrapbooking, a good Netflix series, and eating chips.
How do you juggle work with mommyhood?
With lots of patience and grace. And a good glass of wine 😉
